Here’s the idea.

Type 1 Diabetes is full of routines no one sees.

The alarms. The interruptions. The supplies that pile up quietly in the background.

Most of the time, those supplies get thrown away.

What if we turned supplies into something cool?

If you live with Type 1 Diabetes, or if you love someone who does, join me!

Save your supplies for a few months, a year or whatever feels right.

Let them collect.
You don’t need to know yet what they will become.

Over time, patterns will emerge.
Inspiration will find you once you give it something to work with.

Then create something.
A photo. A video. A sculpture. A collage. Something abstract. Something personal.

No perfection, just see what happens!

This is your invitation.

Why I’m doing this

When I was first diagnosed, I processed it by making self‑portraits. I couldn’t control what was happening, but I could control how I worked through it.

At first, the idea to save all my supplies was just curiosity — wow, that’s a lot of trash. Used alcohol wipes are gross, but when you see hundreds of them together, alongside everything else, the condition becomes visible in a new way.

I also care about the messaging of Type 1 content. Yes, our condition can be exhausting and misunderstood. But over time, this becomes routine. Automatic. A thing we carry, like everyone else carries something.

This project is about choosing a steady, confident and curious perspective – and creating from that place.

What this is (and isn’t)

This is not a competition.
There is no prize…yet. (I’m working on it!)

I hope to feature participants’ work in a documentary or installation, but that’s still evolving. Where this goes will be shaped by the people who join.

Right now, this is simply a container for the Type 1 community to say:
I get to decide what this condition becomes.

This is a playground for creativity, not a test.

The original self-portrait I made after saving every piece of Type 1 trash in 2022.

So start saving!

This project isn’t about making “art” the right way.

It’s about honoring the quiet work it takes to stay alive and transforming it into something visible.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
